Dick Butkus, the legendary Bears Hall of Fame middle linebacker and Chicago native, has passed away at the age of 80.

He played all eight of his NFL seasons with the Bears from 1965-73.

He was voted to the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight NFL seasons and won two NFL Defensive Player of the Year Awards.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979 in his first year of eligibility.

He was known for his ferocity and intensity on the field.

He also became a popular actor after retiring from football, appearing in dozens of movies and television shows.

He generously supported numerous charitable causes throughout his adult life.

Butkus is considered by many to be the most ferocious defensive player in NFL history. He was a true legend of the game.
